ECTS Catalog

What are ECTS and NQF-HETR Catalogues?
The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a student-centered credit system based on the workload of the student. It assigns value to all the activities (theoretical courses, practical sessions, seminars, individual work, exams, assignments, etc.) required for a student to successfully complete a course.
In the context of implementing the Bologna Process in Turkey, ECTS is one of the most critical focus areas. In recent years, many universities in Turkey have intensified efforts to align their own credit and grading systems with ECTS principles.
The National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in Turkey (NQF-HETR)  refers to the "development of a national qualifications framework in the field of higher education" that member countries of the Bologna Process committed to establishing by 2010 in order to enhance transparency, recognition, and mobility within their higher education systems. This initiative aligns with the Lisbon Strategy objectives published by the European Union (EU) in 2000, as well as the Bologna Process goals which Turkey joined in 2001. The National Qualifications Framework is a system that structures qualifications recognized and correlated by both national and international stakeholders in an organized manner. Through this system, all qualifications and other learning outcomes in higher education can be clearly described and consistently interconnected.
